Apple will release OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Published on July 24 2013
Currently, the latest version of Mac is 10.8, however, it will become history for the latest version of OS X 10.9 Mavericks will come. According to WWDC keynote on July 10, 2013 Apple unveiled the latest update for its operating system, OS X Maverick.
Apple made a point during WWDC Keynote presentation to label OS X Mavericks, and in turn an updated Safari browser, as being more energy conscious. According to Craig Federighi, users can expect 72 percent less CPU activity. Additionally, OS X Mavericks includes support for multiple displays, even sending your desktop to your HDTV via Apple TV and Airplay.
But beyond energy consumption improvements, Safari has received some other updates. A new layout features a redesigned home page and "top sites." And a sidebar offers the ability to share links directly to all your social networks.
Other updates in OS X 10.9 include iCloud Keychain, improved Notifications, and a new Calendar. The iCloud Keychain is designed to streamline storage and usage of private data like passwords and credit card numbers. Notifications has been given a reworking, but the most interesting improvement is the ability to actually respond to notifications from right within the window.
Mavericks isn't a huge leap forward in terms of features, but it sees Apple tweaking and introducing content related apps and services such as Maps and Notifications synchronizing across all Apple devices and iBooks now coming to OS X.
As expected with the impending OS X Mavericks release date, Apple has released OS X 10.9 Mavericks beta 4 to developers. The release comes two weeks after the beta 3 release, a timeline Apple has stuck to in releasing both its upcoming OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 operating systems.
Though the beta 4 version of mavericks is only expected to include minor tweaks and bug updates, according to Mac Rumors the flagship operating system for Apple's desktop devices will include features like "tabbed Finder, full screen dual monitor capabilities, Safari improvements, and a new Maps app. Developers can receive the update via the Software Update tool in the Mac App Store."
Maps is expected to be one of the major overhauls in Mavericks as the mapping app debacle resulted in the ousting of iOS chief Scott Forstall last year. Plagued with poor navigation, warped 3D city and landscape, and a striking lack of Apple's signature user-friendliness, the Maps feature is certainly neat the top of Apples to-do list.
At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) back in June, Apple showcased what it has planned for Maps and for Mavericks in general. Expect the GPS-based traveling guide to boast 3-D imaging of buildings and landmarks, which users can sync to their favorite locations and directions across all device.
Among the other improvements expected to come with the launch of Mavericks this fall include App Nap, Compressed Memory, Multitasking, Siri, and many more.
OS X 10.9 Mavericks is expected to launch this fall along with iOS 7, the next-gen iPad with Retina display, a possible iPad mini--though the iPad mini with Retina display likely won't come into fruition until early 2014--the iPhone 5S, and the alleged low-cost iPhone. Another item to keep an eye on is the purported iWatch. Patent photos and recent hirings have led to significant speculation that Apple is gearing up for a smartwatch, though like the iPad mini with Retina display likely won't launch until next year.
While developers will be able to check out a preview of OS X Mavericks today, Apple will officially release the update sometime this fall. No word on pricing, as of yet.
