By now you may have heard that Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 is expected to come in two flavors: one with a 4.7-inch display and one with a much larger 5.5-inch screen. Previous reports pegged Apple's phablet for a later launch, but now comes word that both devices may go on sale in September.

Both iPhone 6 Models May Ship in September

According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 6 will enter production in July, which will give Apple time to get the devices on shelves before the fall. The same report says that the new iPhones will sport rounder and thinner designs than the iPhone 5s and previous iPhones.

Although both devices may go on sale at the same time, Bloomberg's sources claim that producing the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 is more complicated. The resulting lower production efficiency needs to be "overcome before manufacturing volume can be increased."

The iPhone 6 promises much more than just a larger canvas. Previous reports suggest a much stronger sapphire crystal display, an advanced 10-MP camera and a faster A8 processor. The iPhone 6 will also presumably have health and fitness features built in to tap into the new Health app in iOS 8.

Come September, Apple will battle another pahblet in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. That device is rumored to sport a sharper QHD 5.7-inch display, which may be curved. That Galaxy Note 4 will also likely pack a blazing Snapdragon 805 processor.

If it turns out that the smaller and larger iPhone 6 debut at the same time, it will allow the iWatch to have the spotlight all to itself when it is reportedly revealed in October.

The South Korean company seems to be on a mission to create a next-generation TV set to suit absolutely every type of consumer everywhere in the world, and its latest new sets could trigger a price war.

Most experts agree that while ultra-high-definition television may be wonderful, it is still has a long way to travel before it becomes a fixture in most people's living rooms.

For example Netflix, which is a pioneer in this area and is already creating and streaming TV shows in the new format, believes that widespread adoption is still another five years away.

Strategy Analytics predicts that based on its own research, it will take until 2020 for UHD TVs to make up over 40 percent of global television shipments (global demand for UHD TVs only surpassed 1 million units for the first time in 2013, driven predominantly by China), by which point 32 percent of US homes and 22 percent of western European homes will have one.

Yet none of that seems to be dissuading Samsung's all-in push into this still relatively embryonic market, and on Tuesday the brand announced a new 85-inch model plus the creation of two new lines of UHD TV, bringing its offering up to six separate ranges of TV offering flat or curved displays and screens that go from 40- to a gargantuan 110-inches in size.

The new 85-inch flat screen model, the HU8550 Series, will cost $9,999.00 when it goes on sale at the end of the month in the US and will be joined by the new HU7250 series range of curved TVs two months later. They offer screen sizes of 55-inches ($2,199.99) and 65-inches ($3,299.99) and a host of smart and connected features including being able to split the wrap-around screen into four so that several different programs can be viewed simultaneously while also surfing the web or running an app.

However, it's the new HU6950 range, and in particular, the entry-level 40-inch model, that stands the biggest chance of having an impact with consumers.

When research and analytics firms poll households about ultra-high-definition the two issues that are most commonly raised are the lack of readily available native content and the high retail prices of branded TV sets.

Like any TV that is branded as being UHD, the HU6950 has to be able to automatically ‘upscale' HD content so that it is closer to UHD, so that's the first issue potentially addressed, and as for the question of price, it will retail for just $999.99, putting it pretty much on a par with the highest specification HD TV sets currently on the market.

"As the UHD TV market leader, we're seeing excellent category growth and adoption among consumers who are looking for the highest resolution and best-in-class picture quality Samsung UHD TVs offer," said Joe Stinziano, Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics America. "We're excited to introduce another super-sized model and two entirely new series to our UHD TV family. Whether it's a flat or curved UHD TV, Samsung continues to provide consumers the broadest selection of UHD TVs for any home."

And as market leader, where Samsung goes, others will follow, and some industry commentators have predicted that 2014 would be the year that one of the major brands -- i.e., Samsung, LG or Sony -- aggressively cuts its prices and that the cut would trigger a mass of competition.

Just as recently teased, Microsoft and Nokia on Tuesday unveiled a new Android handset, the budget-friendly dual SIM Nokia X2. The handset, which will sell off-contract for just $99, or around $135, is not a flagship device by this year’s standards, and still ships with a custom Google-less Android OS version on board.

The Nokia X2 packs a 4.3-inch WVGA ClearBlack LCD display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage, microSD support up to 32GB, 15GB of OneDrive storage, 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera and 1800mAh battery. The phone still runs Nokia’s Android OS with a Metro-like tile interface on top, but it’s a new version, called “Nokia X Software Platform 2.0.”

On top of Nokia’s Android, the handset will come preloaded with various apps including Skype, Outlook.com, OneDrive, Here Maps and MixRadio, while Bing Search, Yammer and Xbox games are available from the Nokia Store. Users will also be able to install apps from third-party stores, and there are ways to bring the Google Play Store to Nokia’s X phones.

The Nokia X2 will ship globally at some point in July, although it will be available in “select countries” immediately. The phone will be available in a variety of colors, including glossy green, orange and black at launch, and in glossy yellow, white and matt grey down the road.

If a new report from Reuters is accurate, Apple's iWatch could arrive as soon as October, and it's "likely" to feature a 2.5-inch display manufactured by LG. Production of the company's first smartwatch will apparently kick into high gear in July, with Apple aiming to produce and ship a massive total of 50 million units in its first year.

Reuters says the screen will be "slightly rectangular in shape" and adds that the watch will include hardware capable of detecting a user's pulse, which would obviously make for a nice tie-in with Apple's upcoming Health app in iOS 8.

Previous rumors have suggested that pulse isn't the only thing Apple's wearable will keep track of, but Reuters doesn't expand on any other features — nor does it offer any specifics on the software Apple has designed for the so-called iWatch.

The long-rumored device represents a major gamble for Apple as it tries to prove that it's still capable of innovating in new areas and producing another consumer hit after setting a high bar with the iPhone and iPad. CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly pledged that Apple will enter new product categories this year, with VP Eddy Cue recently adding that the company's current pipeline is the best he's seen during his entire tenure at Apple.

Another day, another handful of next-generation iPhone 6 leaks. This time around, Taiwanese actor and pop star Jimmy Lin is back with new photos of a model believed to accurately represent Apple’s upcoming 5.5-inch iPhone phablet, which is reportedly set to be unveiled this October.

This is what the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will look like next to an iPhone 5S

Following a pair of photos Lin posted last week that seemingly showed us what the full assembled 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will look like, Lin on Wednesday posted a photo to his Weibo account that shows a 5.5-inch next-generation iPhone model next to an iPhone 5s.

The display is being replaced on the iPhone 5s in the image so it is difficult to compare the two devices, but we can clearly see that the new handset is significantly larger than Apple’s current iPhone models. The design of the 5.5-inch iPhone appears to be very similar to the 4.7-inch model we’ve seen leak several times so far, which aligns with earlier rumors.

Also seen on the 5.5-inch iPhone phablet model is a nearly bezel-free design on the sides of the display, as well as new slim volume buttons and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

A pop star might appear to be an unlikely source for iPhone leaks, but it should be noted that Lin posted photos of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini before the devices were unveiled in 2012, and they ended up being legitimate.

Apple is expected torelease a completely redesigned 4.7-inch iPhone 6 this coming September — perhaps on September 19th, if Apple partner Deutsche Telekom is to be believed — and then the 5.5-inch model is expected to debut later this year, perhaps in October alongside Apple’s new iWatch.
