Xiaomi to offer 15,000 Mi 3s for sale on Flipkart on August 5

Xiaomi's modus-operandi of flash sales has caught both the Indian consumer and Flipkart off guard. On July 22, when the Mi 3 originally went for sale it was sold out in 39 minutes. Things became worst on July 29 during the second flash sale as the phone got sold out in just 5 seconds .

Flipkart was reeling as its servers crashed both times and was unable to cope with the extreme demand for the phone. On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, Xiaomi will host its third flash sale for the Mi 3 and it has revealed that it bringing 15,000 units for sale.

Earlier, Xiaomi revealed that it had managed to sell 20,000 units of the Mi 3 in India, with it offering 10,000 units in both the flash sales. This time around it is bring 15,000 units, 5,000 more than the previous two sales, to provide for the unprecedented demand.

The Mi 3 has proven to be a winner. For Rs.13,999, the Mi 3 represents staggering value as we found out in our review of the device. It has a 5-inch 1080p screen, a fast quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera and a large 3,050mAh battery. It also has a handsome design and it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat overlaid with Xiaomi's MiUI.

People who want to be part of the flash sale need to pre-register on Flipkart. The pre-registration process does not guarantee one getting a Mi 3 but only allows one to participate in the sale. While Xiaomi has increased the number of units it is bringing to India, we still believe this to be too little and are pretty convinced that Flipkart will again struggle to handle the flash sale.

Instead of a flash sale, we believe that Xiaomi should have adopted a pre-order process where the consumer paid an amount upfront so that the device was guaranteed to the consumer.
