Three ways transfer data from iPhone to laptop
Published on July 26 2013
"How can I transfer contacts and data from my iphone to laptop? I had put passlock on the iphone and the touch is now not working so I cannot use Itunes. Is there any other software that I can use to transfer the data?"
There are a few ways for you to transfer data from iPhone to laptop, the first way is to email directly, the second is to use iPhone to Computer Transfer, and the third is to use Dropbox.
Way 1: Email data to yourself
You get files on and off your iPhone is to email them to yourself. Most iPhone applications offer email as an output method, and you simply append the project or file to an email as an attachment.
By sending the file to yourself, you can access the file from any computer that has access to that email account. You might even set up a free email account with Gmail or some other Web-based email provider for this express purpose. You can then access files from the iPhone using nothing more than a browser and an Internet connection.
However, this method does not apply to those who have masses of data. What a waste of time to individually email data from your iPhone to yourself! And it's not so simple, either. If you prefer faster/simpler way to sync, refer to the following methods.
Way 2: Use iTunes to sync information on your device with your computer.
For example, if you have movies or music on your computer, syncing adds this media to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps below to set up syncing.
- Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
- Connect your device to your computer. Use the included USB cable to connect your device to your computer.
- Find your connected device. Learn more about how to locate your connected device in iTunes.
4. Click on your device. After clicking on your device, tabs appear on the left side of the iTunes window under Settings.
If you don't have the corresponding content in your iTunes library, some tabs might not appear. For example, if you don't have any podcasts in your library, the Podcast tab won't appear. In addition to Music, Movies, and TV shows your tabs might include: Info: Sync your contacts and calendars. Apps: Manage your apps and file sharing. Podcasts: Sync your podcasts. iTunes U: Sync your iTunes U courses. Books: Sync your books and and PDF documents. Audiobooks: Sync your audiobooks. Tones: Sync your ring(tones) and other alert tones. Photos: Sync your photos. Learn how to sync photos with iTunes. Turn on syncing. iTunes can't sync certain content, including mail accounts, notes, or bookmarks.
5. Turn on syncing. You can turn on syncing for Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Books, Audiobooks, Tones, Photos, and Info. To turn on syncing, click the content type from the list under settings, then click the box next to Sync. If there's a check in the box already, syncing is turned on for that tab. To turn off syncing, uncheck the box.
6. Sync your content. Click the Sync button in the lower-right corner of the screen to sync your content. Only the information in the content list you've enabled syncing for will sync to your computer. If you make any changes to any of the settings, first click Apply. You can also sync your iOS device over Wi-Fi.
Way 3: Use Dropbox
You can download Dropbox ( a free app from App Store) to both your computer/laptop and your iPhone. Dropbox is a service that allows you to backup all your photos, videos and docs. All files that you have saved in Dropbox can be access from your computer and iDevice. But the drawback is that it is not so stable. And this method is a bit troublesome comparing using iPhone to Computer Transfer.
There's little question but that syncing work files between an iPhone and a desktop is the least intuitive, most cumbersome and all-round user-unfriendly process. For a device that is so well designed in so many ways this is a big disappointment.
