iPhone X Plus with even larger OLED screen tipped for 2018

And so it begins… The iPhone X range will grow to feature a larger Plus edition in 2018, if an early prediction from a noted analyst is accurate.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities reckons Apple will look to top the 5.8-inch OLED screen featured on the newly-released tenth-anniversary handset.

The well-connected Kuo, who has a better track record than most in these cases, reckons the phone will have a gigantic 6.5-inch display with a pixel density of up to 500ppi.

However, according to Kuo, Apple is also planning to roll out edge-to-edge displays beyond the iPhone X next year.

Bye-bye bezels

The sequel to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will also be bezel-free, according to the analyst, but with LCD tech rather than the more expensive OLED tech powering the display.

The display size could be 6.1-inches, with a lower, max pixel density of 330ppi. It would also include Face ID, he says.

He says the iPhone 9 (or whatever it ends up being called) will also have a much more agreeable price tag than the iPhone X.

According to the note to investors, it’ll start at around $649, making it cheaper than the current iPhone 8.

The report ties in with what we’ve been hearing about the iPhone 8 sequel, as Apple looks to consign the Home button and Touch ID to the past.

However, it’s a little early in the cycle to make any concrete judgements on 2018 iPhone rumours, which went right up to September 2017 for the current editions.
