Asus rumored to launch New Nexus 7 and 5-inch Intel-based smartphone

According to related rumors, Asus is planning on showing off a couple of new devices in the coming months. After launching the ASUS FonePad in April, ASUS is said to be previewing the next generation of Nexus 7s in May, and launching a brand new Intel-based phone in June.
According to DigiTimes, Asus will launch a new smartphone with an Intel Atom Z2580 “Clover Trail” processor “in June at the earliest.” The device is expected to offer a large 5- to 5.5-inch display, similar to that of the Lenovo K900 — which also uses the Atom Z2580 processor — and the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
DigiTimes also leaked some information about a second-generation Nexus 7. According to the report, the device will appear in May “with enhanced specifications” and a $249 price tag. Like its predecessor, it will compete with other 7- and 8-inch tablets, including the Amazon Kindle Fire and the iPad mini.
The current Nexus 7 was first launched in July 2012, so an update around May this year is indeed plausible. What’s more, this is the same month Google will hold its annual I/O developer conference, which would be the perfect time to announce a new slate.
Both of the devices are set to impress. Despite the Intel Atom Z2580 being only dual-core, benchmarks have shown it beating out the Snapdragon S4 Pro time and time again. The CPU supports up to 2GB of RAM, HSPA+, 16MP rear-facing cameras, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It is said to also be great at optimizing battery life. The new Nexus 7, judging from its predecessor, shall be an outstanding device as well.
