iPad Air 2 Launching Sept. 9 with iPhone 6 (Report)

Between two expected iPhone 6 devices and the iWatch, you might think that Apple was unveiling enough gear at its Sept. 9 event. But there could be one more thing coming from Tim Cook & Co.

A new report claims that the iPad Air 2 will also break cover, sporting a Touch ID sensor and other new goodies.

As reported by AppleInsider, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that a next-generation iPad Air will debut at Apple's event in Cupertino, Calif. The expected upgrades include a faster new A8 processor, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and an anti-reflective screen. Plus, like the iPhone, the new Air will come in a gold color.

Interestingly, Kuo wrote in his research note that he doesn't expect significant upgrades for the iPad mini, other than perhaps Touch ID. This doesn't surprise us, however, given that big-screen phablets are starting to eat into sales of smaller tablets. The Air is probably where the action is -- and will continue to be.

Apple usually reserves iPad launches for a dedicated event, which took place last year during October. But maybe the company simply wants to get a jump on holiday sales, as well as better promote the new Handoff feature in iOS 8 for sharing info between devices with new hardware.
